Areas of Interest: how institutions change and why they matter for development, environmental governance, comparative political economy, development and environmental history of Latin America.
Jose Carlos Orihuela is a visiting fellow in international studies.
His research includes book projects on horizontal inequalities and economic policy, resource conflict in the Andes, and a comparative political economy of resource abundance.
Prior to joining the Institute, he taught comparative development at New York's New School. He holds a BA in economics from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru and a MPA/ID from Harvard University.
He has a PhD from Columbia University, for a dissertation titled "Journeys Toward Sustainable Development: The Rise of the Green State in Chile and Peru."
